When Love Is Found: ‘Muppet Christmas Carol’ Star Meredith Brown On Her Triumphant Return To Her Long-Lost Song

“A Doll’s Christmas Carol” is complete again. While the movie celebrates 30 yearsThe tenth Anniversary On Dec. 11, Belle’s Long-Lost Fan Favorite “When Love Is Gone” Is Finally Coming repair. A full version of the holiday classic (with a tear-jerker ballad) is now available to stream on Disney+.

“It’s the strangest thing,” says Meredith Brown, who portrays Bell. diverse. “How many years later and all of a sudden they give it back again! For me, it’s the gift that keeps on giving in a funny way.”

The song, in which Scrooge’s young love interest tearfully bids farewell to his miserly ways, was cut from the original theatrical release of the film. Director Brian Henson told Entertainment Weekly that Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was Disney’s studio head at the time, suggested removing the song.

“He said, ‘Do you see how antsy these kids are?'” Henson told the outlet. “It’s like, ‘It’s just a very emotional feeling for little kids to keep in touch.'” [The movie] It certainly plays well without the song, but I clearly preferred having the song in it. I think it’s good for kids to be drawn into deeply emotional moments, even if they feel embarrassed about it when they’re at the movies.”

The song was on the VHS release of the film, but was missing from subsequent home video releases on DVD and Blu-Ray. “It’s because Disney lost the negativity,” Henson told The Big Issue. “When we tried to rip it to a Blu-ray movie, it sounded terrible because you could tell we cut it in HD to the original video version. It’s been 20 years!”

Henson’s prayers were finally answered in 2020, when the footage was recovered. He told BBC Radio 2: “I was so excited. I was like, ‘No, you haven’t!’ ‘ They said, ‘Yes, we did! We found him!’ I was so happy.”

Brown says diverse She had no idea what impact the movie would have all these years later. “I was 19 when I did it. I was in the middle of Les Mis, going every night to die, covered in blood and maggots – I was Eponine. It was a nice contrast to that! I loved it. It was a great piece of work, but it just didn’t cross my mind at the time.” So far that it will come back every year, as a Christmas movie.”

At first, Brown wasn’t bothered about being cut off. “The song wasn’t in the cinema, but it was still on VHS. I remember Brian being really down on it. He was so sweet. But I was like, ‘Okay, it’s still there.'” What is the problem? Cinema will come and go and will remain on tape.”

She continues, “I know it’s because it slows things down for five-year-olds, which I understand, because it’s so sad. It’s really sad. I’ve since heard it was the same guy who wanted to cut out ‘Part of Your World,’ which is What I didn’t realize until recently.”

Brown says the poem has taken on more meaning for her as she has gotten older. Many years later, I released an album in 2017 that has the song in it. But it’s used in a very different way. It’s part of the song cycle of leaving an abusive relationship and it fits the story perfectly. The subtext you bring into the song every time, when I originally did, is different. Exactly what you would have brought to her after so many years.”

“What I’m really proud of — and I don’t think I realized that at the age of 19 — is that she’s making a really strong decision from a feminist perspective,” Brown adds. “I think Bell went on to be a suffragette and win the women’s vote. I think she’s making a strong decision, even though it hurts to leave and do the right thing.”

Brown has fond memories of sharing the screen with Michael Caine, whom she describes as “a very generous actor and a lovely man”, but says she was more excited about the marionette. “I was in deep awe of them all. They were the stars. Miss Piggy wasn’t a singer, contrary to popular belief. I think the best performers aren’t. Michael Caine was the same. If you’re really good, you don’t have to be a singer, do you?” Everything is made!”

The full version of “The Muppet Christmas Carol” is now being released in cinemas in the UK to celebrate the anniversary. Brown can’t wait to see him. “I’d probably bring a group of friends and go laugh. Why not? What don’t you like about the Muppets? I’d be honored to be a little part of it.”
