The premise itself is intriguing enough to prompt an eight-episode season, and showrunner Branded Jacob-Jenkins expands on the book’s plot to include subplots and characters that further the show’s main quandary: How can contemporary black women stand up to the abuse of slavery?


National Treasure: The Edge of History (Disney+, Wed, 3:01 a.m.)
