As exciting as 2022 was for Apple’s new products, 2023 could put it to shame with all-new, updated products. Here’s what rumors predict next year.
Barring another global pandemic, Apple will launch a new iPhone around September 2023. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about.
And like almost every year, Apple 2023 will bring a new Mac, a new Apple Watch, and likely an update to at least one of the iPad models. As interesting and sophisticated as these new models can be, in most respects they will still be familiar.
Based on the increasing rumors and information emerging from the supply chain, it looks like there are at least a few more exciting products that Apple has in store for release sometime in 2023.
In 2023, there will probably be a completely new virtual reality headset with augmented reality components. The most powerful Mac in company history may be shipping, while a revived audio product may be brought back from the dead.
These, and more, are all things that have a good chance of popping up in the near future. Here’s what we expect to see, based on what came out of the rumor mill.
It is likely that Apple’s entire year will be defined by the release of its long-rumored VR headset. Whether the piece of hardware debuts at the start of the year or hangs above all other announcements, it will color in some way every ad Apple makes in 2023, until it finally comes out.
It’s coming sometime in 2023 – almost certainly. But since it’s a brand new device, the company has the most flexibility as to when it wants to show it to the public.
Basically, there is too much smoke clouding the sky for this product to land.
Why is it exciting?: Eight years after the Apple Watch went on sale, Apple is about to launch a whole new kind of device in an entirely new category. It is a new product that has the potential to change the way we see the world around us.
The Meta Quest 2 is arguably the most popular virtual reality headset to date, and it was a compelling introduction to virtual reality for a lot of people. But by all accounts, Apple’s headphone hardware is expected to far surpass the Quest 2 to deliver more immersive experiences.
We like to imagine that a lot of Apple’s technologies and services like SharePlay, Fitness Plus, Memoji, among many others will appear and change our daily tasks.
Additionally, it appears that Apple is getting closer to using xrOS as the official name for its new mixed reality operating system. That should confirm that the program will extend beyond virtual reality to also include augmented reality experiences as well.
Because of the developer’s engagement, we’ll likely see a new Mac Pro at WWDC in June. If it’s not at the annual conference, we could see it happen soon because it’s close to a year since Apple teased (and confirmed) a new Mac Pro at its spring 2022 event.
Why is it exciting? It would be hard for any tech enthusiast to turn away from or ignore, even if most people don’t need it or won’t buy it.
The new Mac Pro will be incredibly powerful. The already powerful Mac Studio can be configured with an M1 Ultra processor that has a 20-core CPU and can go up to a 64-core GPU, along with 128GB of RAM.
So the new Mac Pro may be able to double the CPU performance if UltraFusion die-to-die threading is used here with two Ultra chips.
There should also be plenty of design choices worth seeing for the casual observer. Let’s finally see what “modular” means in the age of Apple Silicon, and gain insights into future Macs from the shape and size of the Pro case.
More importantly, stare at whether or not the new Mac Pro gets wheels.
A new HomePod
March 2023 will mark two years since Apple has discontinued the original HomePod. Almost immediately after his murder, rumors suggested that Apple was working on a revamped model.
These rumors persist and suggest that in early 2023, a new HomePod could appear in some form. The HomePod mini can get updated too, after all.
Why is it exciting?: Nothing is more exciting than a resurrection story – especially for a worthy product.
The original HomePod had its flaws, but it was a good speaker. So much so that when Apple announced its demise, the device’s secondary market rose rather than diminished.
People who have used the speaker really like it.
The new HomePod can be transformed to include a screen for apps or widgets. It can integrate with the Apple TV to be more than just a soundbar.
A two-year hiatus may indicate that he is going to get a major change. But even if it was simply reworked to keep component costs down, it could be a win for people who want big sound without a bulky speaker taking up space in their home.
New AirPods Max
AirPods Max is one of the few products that don’t have a lot of rumors attached to it. The biggest indication here that an update is imminent is that the low-cost products in the AirPods lineup have surpassed premium and high-end headphones in some technical capabilities.
Why are they sexy?: The first AirPods Max got a lot right, so the update likely won’t add much. But a slight reduction in weight can go a long way to making over-ear headphones more comfortable.
New earbud options may make them suitable for more tasks. Switching from the Lightning port to the USB-C port for charging will go a long way in making the headphones more practical in everyday use.
In terms of technology, if the AirPods are to be linked to an upcoming extended reality headset, updated hardware for the Max headphones may be needed to help reduce latency between the two products.
But most of these rumors are whispers
Mac Pro is coming. Apple has already said it, even if they don’t say when.
The rest is whispers and discussions, floats from Apple’s supply chain and the wishful creative minds of rumormongers. We don’t post everything – there are too many skins out there that don’t fit what’s going on, or are just plain flat.
All of the rumors surrounding the above products make sense. And with all of them there was enough smoke to indicate that something was going on.
The fire may have arrived in 2023.
