In the episode, Slater plays Alagash, a friend of Val Kilmer’s character Madmartigan, who joins him on a daring adventure to secure the legendary armor called the Kymerian Cuirass. The pair, along with Madmartigan’s host, Boorman (Amar Chadha-Patel), search for Cuirass for three years, which leads them to Wiggleheim Cemetery on Mount Skellin. Madmartigan entered the tomb, never to return, and Alagach told the trolls that he was Madmartigan so that his friend could continue searching without chasing after him.

Sounds like a fun movie, right? Well, that’s what Kasdan had in mind when casting the pivotal role.

The idea immediately, once we saw where we were going with this, [is] There was a movie you’ve never seen.” Kasdan told io9. It came out in 1992 and it was The Adventures of Madmartigan And Madmartigan was leading a team of adventurers on a daring mission. And we thought, “Who’s going to be in this movie?” And Christian was the first name that popped into our heads.”

This was the pitch Kasdan used to lure Slater. “The first thing I told Christian when I finally got him on the phone was exactly what I just said to you,” Kasdan said. And he said, ‘Sure, man, I would be in that movie in a heartbeat.'”

“What’s amazing about Christian is that he has a real, real love for the genre,” Kasdan continues. “He loves this kind of adventure story. He loves star Wars, loves snobs and scoundrels, and was waiting to play one. So it was kind of serendipitous when this role came up and we wanted someone who could fill in some holes in what happened to Madmartigan and what that endeavor would be. But the first and most obvious thing about it is that this person will not be someone we can trust. He must be a real con man, double trader, and out for himself in every way. And that was the second thing I explained to Christian. And he shared more because he does it naturally.”

Slater is excellent in the episode, portraying this devious, brash but ultimately selfless man, who we think would sacrifice himself for the sake of the other heroes. We’ll have to wait and see if he survives, but either way, Slater willow It is a big event of the season.

We’ll have more of Kasdan and his crew as we get to the end of the season. The first six episodes of willowincluding Slater’s, are now on Disney+
