The first mid-season update for Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 is just around the corner. The reloaded Season 1 brings an all-new assault rifle, new multiplayer map, more dangerous areas to explore in the DMZ, and more.
Players who own Modern Warfare 2 will also get access to the first Special Ops Raid and Atomgrad, and the chance to earn additional rewards and cosmetics.
Here’s everything you need to know about reloading Season 1.
What’s new in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 Reloaded
Season 1 Reloaded Release Date and Double XP Event
The Reloaded Season 1 premieres December 14th at 10:00am PT | 6:00 pm GMT | 2:00 a.m., Dec. 15.
To celebrate the update, Double XP and Double Weapon XP will be activated across all platforms during the extended weekend, which runs from December 15th to December 19th. PlayStation players will get to enjoy Double XP a little earlier, starting December 14th.
Special Ops Raid: Atomgrad
Raids are new special ops missions that will pit teams of three players against enemy AI.
The first-ever raid, Atomgrad, tasks players with helping Price, Farah, and Gaz uncover the secrets inside a heavily fortified enemy facility. You pick up where Modern Warfare 2’s campaign left off, sending your squad deep into an underground bunker.
The trailer hints at more tactical gameplay, with plenty of swimming. Those who complete the raid will unlock a new Gas Trigger, as well as access to a higher difficulty playlist.
The Raid itself is also loaded with intel info that grants additional cosmetics, as well as “interesting data” about the world of Modern Warfare 2.
The fan-favorite Shipment map has been reimagined in Season 1 Reloaded. Set on a cargo ship floating through the water in a storm-swept part of the Atlantic, the compact map promises new levels of frantic, high-octane action.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, Shipment will also receive a temporary festive visual overhaul from December 21st to January 4th, featuring Christmas decorations to get you in the mood for mayhem.
Shipping will be featured in playlists throughout the rest of Season 1. If you’ve been waiting for the camo grind, now is the time.
Explore Building 21 in the DMZ
New DMZ switches are up for grabs on the farm, leading to areas like never before.
One of these is a secret area called Building 21, which is a secret biological laboratory. It’s described as “one of the deadliest areas in the DMZ,” and you’ll likely need a key to access the loot and rewards within.
High level contraband is also found throughout the building, particularly in lockers and private areas that require key card access.
Score a goal in the Warzone Cup, or be the last man standing in Mini Royale
Football celebrations are not over yet. A new limited-time playlist called the Warzone Cup will pit two teams of three customers against each other at Al Asima Stadium, home to one of Al Mazraa Football Club’s league rivals.
Special pulse-powered ATVs allow you to push a massive soccer ball into the other team’s goal. Halt opponents with shock sticks, or boost enemy cars to get them out of the way.
The first team to score five goals, or the team with the most goals at the end of the five-minute time limit, wins the match.
If you think this sounds a lot like Rocket League, you’re right.
There’s also a second limited-time playlist called Mini Royale, made for fans of the traditional battle royale. It’s an intense tactical version of the regular battle royale, but with fewer players and smaller farm safe areas.
Things will move more quickly here, so you can expect early engagements, closer range matches, and much shorter matches.
New operators Gaz and Klaus
The mid-season update also adds two new Operators to the game. Gaz is a member of Task Force 141 and Captain Price’s right-hand man, while Klaus is a Danish Special Forces operative here to add some celebratory cheer.
Gaz can be unlocked by completing the Atomgrad Special Ops Raid. On the other hand, Klaus can only be obtained by purchasing the Klaus Operator Pack in the store.
New Chimera assault rifle
Designed for covert engagements, the new Chimera assault rifle features a built-in suppression and subsonic .300 BLK rounds that hide killing skulls from the enemy team. It also lacks any visible trackers, which keeps your location hidden.
It has a shorter range than most assault rifles, so it mainly excels in short to close range engagements.
Chimera can be unlocked by completing a hitherto unspecified weapon challenge, or purchasing a pack in the store.
More powerful social features with groups
It’s also about to get a lot easier to find teammates. The new Groups social feature will allow you to find or create communities of like-minded gamers, based on everything from your preferred game mode to your interests outside of the game.
Groups can be categorized according to game mode preferences, whether they are for veterans or new players, or even broader topics like entertainment, games, and sports.
Alternatively, you can set the tone of the group, such as whether you are a competitive player or just a casual player, and how often you play.
Various other classes are also available, including whether the group is affiliated with a broadcaster or part of a Call of Duty League team.
Each group can have up to 5,000 members, allowing for the creation of large, vibrant communities. Once a group is created, members can use its dedicated text channels to talk to each other, search for other players, and create parties in Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2.0.
