And the best Android phone of 2022 is…

The year 2022 is roughly in the books. In the Android world, it was very powerful. Google has released good phones, Samsung has released a lot of good phones, and even OnePlus has given us something to talk about. Given that we continue to shrink the number of Android OEMs, we don’t necessarily have a shrinking list of good phone options to choose from, and for that we’re grateful.

In the past, we used to pick just two devices to differentiate them. In an effort to highlight more of the good from the year, we’ve got a list of the devices we wanted to talk about. With that said, let’s go at it.

These are our favorite Android phones of 2022!

In the budget bowl: Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

We hope that this option will not surprise anyone. These are great phones. While the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were solid options in 2021, Google is really aiming to address past issues and elevate this lineup in 2022. The cameras are amazing, the hardware is great, and the software performance is very good. They are basically the perfect Google phones and we said a lot in our reviews.

Whereas in years past, it seemed like a no-brainer to choose a “Pro” model for any device, but in the case of the Pixel 7, it might be a better option for most people. Although it lacks one of the camera sensors that the Pro offers, the Pixel 7’s size and in-hand feel is really great, plus all other features are nearly identical. Considering you can get the Pixel 7 for just $499 right now ($100 off), that’s an amazing price for such a good phone.

Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro. You can’t go wrong with either device.

No budget: Galaxy Z Fold 4

Do you have money to spend on a nice phone? Then it’s the Galaxy Z Fold 4 for you, a very luxurious device at an affordable price. The main takeaway is that Samsung’s foldable devices keep getting better year after year. In addition to that, prices are also coming down, so at this rate, we’re going to look pretty solid around 2026 or so.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a bunch of great cameras, hardware that feels amazingly powerful, plus Software Assurance that helps Samsung maintain its crown as the king of Android updates. In my review, I highlighted the overall performance as a big factor in my affection towards this device. This still holds. The phone is very smooth with all that RAM and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, plus Samsung’s One UI just keeps getting better. If you’re looking for a fun phone to take you into the new year, get the Z Fold 4.

Galaxy S22 Ultra OnePlus 10 Pro release date

In typical Android fashion, there are too many good phones to limit our selection. While the Pixel 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 lineup may have been some of our favorite phones of the year, Samsung has a few other phones worth mentioning, in addition to OnePlus.

Samsung’s other foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, is a foldable that we think most people should consider if they’re just getting into the world of foldable phones. It’s a really good phone. If you don’t care about folding, there’s the Galaxy S22 lineup, with the tiny Galaxy S22 all the way up to the beastly Galaxy S22 Ultra which are great devices. From OnePlus, we really liked the OnePlus 10 Pro and it shouldn’t be overlooked.
