James Gunn talks about Disney’s involvement in the MCU films

Guardians of the Galaxy Director James Gunn has commented on the studio interference he has faced in his career across multiple projects, including from Disney and Marvel itself.

Studio interference is the bane of creators’ existence. This often results in a messy final product filled with competing ideas, though there have been plenty of previous instances where a studio saved the day before a movie hit theaters.

This happens across the board with most studios. For example, Patty Jenkins got into an argument with Warner Bros. About Wonder Woman 1984Zack Snyder’s release window, most Zack Snyder projects have had too many chefs in the kitchen, and Disney may have restricted the running time of movies like Thor: Love and Thunder And the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

But did Gunn have to deal with any of these issues?

Has Disney interfered with James Gunn’s MCU adventures?

In the series of tweets, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Director, and co-leader of the Central Coordination UnitAnd the James Gunn has revealed whether or not he has to deal with studio interference from Disney and Marvel.

in response to a fan who expressed concern that Disney might get involved Vol. 3director pointed out How do “they are not” Tampering with the film and that he and his editors “They are the only ones who modify anything:”

No, they’re not. They’ve never touched any of the Guardians movies. The movie is almost done editing, it’s in good shape, and it’s unique. [Raskin] and Greg [Featherman] (My editors) I’m the only one who edits anything.”

goblin I continued In a different tweet, I say it clearly “If the studio doesn’t like the movie, they step in,” he said. And the “If they did [like it]They don’t:

“As in all studios, if a studio doesn’t like a movie, they step in. And if they do, they don’t. It’s very simple. I’ve never been forced to change any of my films, including the Guardians films.”

Studio Intervention: Enemy of the Creators

Letting the creators do what they do is usually the right course of action, so many will likely be relieved to hear that Gunn hasn’t had any issues with this behavior.

Although, it’s important to note that if there was any significant interference, Gunn likely won’t admit it – for fear of breaking any non-disclosure agreements or upsetting the studio itself.

With Gunn’s new role as co-leader of the DCU, he’ll be on the other side of the table. The manager will now be the one to get involved in the projects and not the larger parent company.

It is also important to reiterate that studio interference still does not occur at all. The two biggest examples of this from Marvel Studios were Edgar Wright ant Man and Scott Derrickson Dr. Strange sequel – both did not happen.

Since the wider world does not know all the details of those cases, it is impossible to know whether the outcome was for the better. Even so, things are clearly still working out for Marvel Studios.

More evidence is that something so silly is hard to believe (not necessarily in a bad way) holiday special They would be released in the first place if the studio was willing to step in and make every choice themselves.

The MCU might have collapsed long ago if studio interference had been such a common problem among their ranks.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Hit theaters May 5th.
