Her close friend Octavia Spencer announced the death of actress Sonia Eddy at General Hospital at the age of 55.

Oscar winner Octavia, 52, revealed the tragic loss of Sonya on Tuesday, sharing a touching snapshot of the actress and praising her “creative angel.”

She wrote: “My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world has lost another iconic angel. Her legions of GeneralHospitalabc fans will miss her.

The cause of death is currently unknown.

Parks and Recreation star Rita commented, “Oh nooo. So sorry Octavia.

Eric Stonestreet commented on two heart emojis, while Ant Anstead wrote: “I’m so sorry x x.”

Eddie starred in General Hospital from 2006 as the inconsequential head nurse Epiphany Johnson, who was the mother of Stan Johnson.

She appeared in 543 episodes in her recurring role. The role was close to her heart as she was a licensed vocational nurse.

Eddie was born in Concord, California. She majored in Theater and Dance at the University of California, Davis, earning her BA in 1992.

She made her acting debut in the play Ruby De Zora Is My Name in 1990. She has also appeared on stage in productions such as The Comedy of Errors and Bloody Mary in the South Pacific.

She moved to Los Angeles to further her acting career and appeared in shows including Married… with Children, Seinfeld and Home Improvement, Joan of Arcadia., Those who could not, rejoiced, two girls so they floated and bounced off the boat.

General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini paid tribute to the star, saying, “I am so saddened about the loss of the amazing Sonya Eddy.” I really liked her not only as an actress but as a friend.

The lights at the Nurses’ Center will now be a little dim, but her spirit and light will live on both in the show and in our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and fans. We will miss her very much.
