Modernization [Fri 9th Dec, 2022 13:30 GMT]: Just last week we heard from the team behind the 2.5D Paper Mario-like, The Outbound Ghost, that the version released to Switch had not been approved and was experiencing performance issues.

The lead developer, Conrad, has released a full video statement claiming that these problems stem from a difficult relationship with the game’s publisher. While the partnership dissolved the following week, the developer claims that the publishing studio continues to profit from the situation.

The statement also states that those who have supported the game’s Kickstarter campaign will receive everything promised when the team is happy with the final product. It appears Conradical Games plans to self-publish the title in the future, though it’s unclear when this will be while the team considers “appropriate legal action” to take against the publishers.

The original article [Fri 2nd Dec, 2022 15:30 GMT]: We’ve been heavily anticipating the release of The Outbound Ghost for a good few months now. Greeting Mario from Paper 2.5D with an adorable little ghostly as the main character? What do you not like! Unfortunately, it looks like the game released on Switch yesterday isn’t the version developer Conradical Games ever wanted to see.

It was shared in a post on the game’s official Twitter account, @tweetThe developer has apologized for the state the game currently finds itself in. According to the letter, the lead developer received a number of comments regarding issues with the game at launch and now publicly available, stating that “I never wanted to release this version of an Exodus game”, but that the release was out of their control.

You can find the full statement in the following tweet.

Reading responses in the time following this announcement, it appears that the issues with the game stem from it being released in a rush without time for adequate testing. Although we still need to get our hands on the game itself, the issues seem to be related to the lack of language options and performance issues.

Those who pre-ordered the game will still receive their copy, but the developer has stated that it is not up to its quality standards.

In response to a customer, the developer seemed to indicate that it was unable to test the game itself, potentially pointing to the publisher as the driving force behind the game’s rapid release.

What is evident in all of the messages and responses in the announcement thread is that Conradical Games is doing everything they can to rectify the situation and ensure that the game is rectified as quickly as possible. Here we hope that the team can work out the issues and release the title as intended.

At the moment, the only developer-approved version of The Outbound Ghost appears to be the one available on Steam. Switch users will have to wait for the patch before knowing what the game is like in its intended state.

What do you think of this news? Did you pre-order the game? Let us know in the comments!
