James McAvoy has revealed he plans to take a step back from acting in order to spend more time with his family in a new interview with The Observer.
The publication reported that the 43-year-old actor recently welcomed a baby boy with his new wife, Lisa Liberati.
The Scottish star already has a 12-year-old son named Brendan with his ex-wife, Anne-Marie Duff.
Slowing down: James McAvoy reveals he plans to take a step back from acting in order to spend more time with his family in a new interview with The Observer
MailOnline has contacted James’ representatives for comment.
He said he didn’t want me to “spend all my days on set” and was trying to slow down and be a “present family member”.
James said, “I put in a lot of work and I love it. But I don’t want to live to work. The industry is great and it’s given me a great life. But it’s living on the nature of sacrificing performance. The film industry or the TV industry, they just consume you.”
He added that he did not want to end up like movie star Bill Murray’s character in Lost In Translation, where he is “away from his wife and children”.
And he continued, “Do I keep chasing, do I keep moving forward, do I keep trying to climb the ladder, the mountain, all that stuff. Or do I continue to enjoy the act of acting – but take the foot off the pedal. And I don’t feel like I’ll never work again. Or more than I would lose momentum, which I may be said to have, if I did not take every great job that came my way. You need to slow down a bit.

James continued, “You can’t be a current family member if you’re a filmmaker every week of the year, every month of the year.” Theaters are different – if you’re into tons and tons and tons of theater, you’re out six nights of the week, always. But you are there more during the day. It’s really a movie and a cutaway – it just drains you. It’s also fun and I love it. But I can’t spend all my days in a group.
The X-Men Special star confirmed his marriage to Lisa earlier this year, after years of speculation.
James has been reflecting on his identity with the Guardian, and the post noted about him and Lisa: “They started a relationship after two years and, he confirms, they recently married.”
Since Lisa hails from Philadelphia, James is asked if he is now an honorary Philadelphian and tells the paper, “Yeah, it’s a second home to me.”

James did not provide more details about their marriage.
The couple started dating in 2018 after they met on the set of Split in America.
James played a leading role in the film while Lisa was a production assistant to director M.J. Nate Shyamalan.
The main man was married at the time to actress Anne-Marie Duff but was in the process of separating from her after 11 years of marriage. The directors share 11-year-old son Brendan.
Just two months after finalizing their divorce, the new couple posted a number of photos on Instagram of them together at a costume party to announce their relationship.
In 2019, their marriage was rumored when director Jamie Lloyd, a close friend of the Glasgow-born actor, was overheard referring to Lisa as ‘James’ wife’ and said they had ‘recently’ married.
In July 2020, the couple moved into a sprawling London home after spending lockdown in his modest city flat, which he took over after moving out of the £1.9m four-bed home he shared with Anne-Marie.

During seclusion, James bragged about Lisa’s artfully made cake and donuts on his Instagram account as well as some of her Jamie Oliver-style dishes.
It was later revealed that the couple had been carrying all their belongings in their spare room and were eventually able to move into a larger home once lockdown ended.
He said: ‘We’re in London and everything is fine. We’ve just moved into a nice house and it’s a bit bigger but we’ve been in a small flat before.
Around April we built a makeshift studio in my spare bedroom. Our only spare bedroom was rammed full of moving stuff and filled with the recording studio that James made.
