Again, it’s that special time of the year when we give you a chance to do well by doing good. That’s right – it’s time for the 2022 edition of the annual Charity Drive!

Every year since 2007, we’ve encouraged our readers to donate to the Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity, which provides toys and games for hospitalized children around the world. In recent years, we’ve added the Electronic Frontier Foundation to our philanthropic efforts, helping in their efforts to defend internet freedom. This year, as always, we’re offering some extra incentives for those donations by giving donors a chance to earn portions of a large gift pile from sellers. We can’t keep it, and we don’t want it clogging up our desks. So it’s time to win.

This year’s swag pile is full of high-value goods for geeks. We have 25 prizes with a total value of more than $2,000, including gaming devices and accessories, collectibles, books, apparel, and more. In 2021, Ars readers raised over $40,000 for charity, contributing to the total Over $435,000 since 2007. We want to raise more this year, and we can do that if our readers really dig in.

How it works

Donating is easy. Simply donate to Child’s Play using PayPal or donate to the EFF using PayPal, credit card or Bitcoin. You can also support Child’s Play directly by selecting an item from a specific hospital’s Amazon Wish List on their donation page. Donate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with – every little bit helps.

Once done, it’s time to enter your sweepstakes. Simply take a digital copy of your receipt (forwarded email, screenshot, or simply cut and paste text) and send it to with your name, postal address, daytime phone number, and email address by 11:59pm ET Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. (One entry per person, and each person can only win one prize. US residents only. No purchase necessary. See the Official Rules for more information, including how to enter without making a donation. See also Privacy Policy Ars Technica.)

We will then contact the winners and ask them to choose their prize by January 31st (selection is made in the order in which winners are drawn).
