The Morning After: ‘Avatar’ sequel crashes some movie projectors in Japan | Engadget

In Japan, the week of the premiere of James Cameron’s Avatar sequel was beset by technical issues in some cinemas. The Avatar sequel is already available in multiple formats, including 2D 48fps, 3D 48fps, and regular 24fps. If you see the 48fps version, it only uses HFR technology for action sequences, while dialogue and slower scenes are ordered to 24fps by frame looping. Intrigued by high frame rates? Check out Devindra Hardawar’s (spoiler-free) review of Avatar: Water Roadhere.

Despite being the widest film release ever in Japan, Avatar: Water Road It failed to rank #1 this past weekend, being beaten by the anime basketball movie CalleD first salam dunk.
